# Type II Hypersensitivities --- A **type II hypersensitivity** is a [[hypersensitivity]] reaction that involves a person's body attacking it's own cells. Because it attacks and kills whole cells, it is also called "cytotoxic hypersensitivity". Some examples of these reactions are transfusion reactions and hemolytic disease of the newborn, where antibodies produced by a pregnant mother can attack the developing baby.
